Westmorland and Furness residents are being reminded that bin collection dates will be different over the Christmas and New Year periods.

There will be a small number of changes to Westmorland and Furness residents’ waste and recycling collections over the festive season.

For the Eden locality (general waste blue bags only):

* Please note these collections will be earlier than the normal collection day.

For the South Lakeland locality:

* Please note these collections will be earlier than the normal collection day.

** Please note this collection will be recycling only.

For the Furness locality:

Please note some changes to dates in the Furness area to previously advertised.

Waste and recycling collections return to their regular scheduled days from Monday 5 January in Eden and South Lakeland, and from Tuesday 6 January in Furness.

As usual for this time of year when less garden waste is generated, collections of garden waste have now been paused until the New Year, with collections resuming in the Furness area from 12 January and in Eden and South Lakeland areas from February.

Remember: you can put large cardboard boxes, Christmas cards (except glitter ones) and wrapping paper (excluding foil or glittery paper) in your paper and card recycling container. Aluminium foil (clean) can also be recycled with your cans and tins.

Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) will remain open as usual throughout the festive season but they will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Opening hours are as follows:

• Ambleside: 8am – 6pm, Monday-Sunday
• Barrow: 8am to 11am – 12pm to 4.30pm, Monday-Sunday
• Penrith (Flusco): 8am – 6pm, Monday-Sunday
• Grange-over-Sands: 8am – 4pm, Thursday-Saturday
• Kendal: 8am – 4pm, Monday-Sunday
• Kirkby Stephen: 8am – 6pm. Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday
• Ulverston: 8am – 6pm, Monday-Sunday
• The HWRC permit helpline will be closed on bank holidays and weekends.

HWRCs that are open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will close at 4pm.
