In 2021 we asked the community of Kendal what they would like to see from their newly redesigned library. We used those views to inform our plans for the building.
We’re looking to commence redesign works in the next month or so, and thought we’d provide you with a quick update to let you know what to expect.
What can you expect?
The redesigned library will improve your browsing experience through clearer signage, improved layout and dedicated seating areas.
It will provide the perfect space to peruse books at your leisure or immerse yourself in research.
There’ll also be a fantastic range of activities on offer such as Adult Learning classes, children’s activities and specialist drop ins in our quiet zone.
The enhanced library service will create a space and setting for everyone to enjoy.
When are works taking place?
The space has already been improved as a result of work on the glass ceiling and lighting.
We’re looking to commence redesign works in Autumn 2022 and we estimate this phase of works to take around 5-6 months. We’re hoping the redesigned library will be complete by Spring 2023.
Will I be able to use the library whilst works are taking place?
Some areas will be cordoned off whilst work takes place.
We may need to shut the building on specific dates but this is yet to be determined. Once we know we’ll send you another email update and we’ll also put posters up in the library and post on Facebook and Instagram.
