Sixth form and college students across the Westmorland and Furness area are set to receive their A level and Tech level results today (Thursday 17 August).
Exam results day is always a day of excitement, high emotions, and mixed feelings – depending upon individual results.
This is the first time these students have experienced national exams after GCSE exams for this cohort were replaced with teacher assessed grades after disruption caused by COVID-19.
Cllr Sue Sanderson, Westmorland and Furness Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, has offered her words of encouragement to everyone receiving results today.
She said: “Today is a day to acknowledge the great work of students, as well as all the excellent work by Head Teachers, Teachers, schools, colleges and parents. It’s also a chance for students to look ahead and focus on the opportunities ahead of them – be that Further Education, Higher Education, employment, or further training.
“All students are to be congratulated for their efforts over recent months and I wish them all the best of luck for the future.
“Whatever you decide to do next, know that whatever your results there are still plenty of opportunities available to you – including with us here at the council. Each year we announce our apprenticeship opportunities and have numerous jobs available right now with excellent progression opportunities.”
Milorad Vasic, Director of Children’s Services at Westmorland and Furness Council added: “I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our young people on all their hard work. I am immensely proud of everyone’s efforts.
“Whatever your results it is now time for you to focus on the future and the opportunities which lie ahead.
“If any student is unhappy with their A or AS level grade, they will also have the opportunity to sit an exam in the autumn, or, in certain circumstances, to appeal the grade through their school or college.”
