Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Peter McCall is inviting organisations to apply for up to £2,500 from the Property Fund, to help support projects that engage in community initiatives and interventions to reduce crime.
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner receive funds from the Police (Property) Act 1997 and the Powers of Criminal Courts Act 1973, which the PCC then distributes to community-based causes that enable young and vulnerable people to be supported via local clubs, groups and activities.
PCC Peter McCall comments: “The Property Fund re-invests funds obtained from criminal behaviour. I would like to invite the public to apply for grants to assist with their community activities, projects and groups, that help reduce anti-social behaviour and crime, providing opportunities and funds where they are needed most.
“I am particularly focused on projects which give young and vulnerable people positive values, help develop confidence and provide a sense of responsibility to their local communities.
“Over the last year, we awarded grants to groups such as the 1st Kirkby Stephen Scout Group for volunteers, Explorers and Scouts to attend residential camps, supported Millom Recreation Centre with funding for gymnastics equipment and helped North Cumbria Rescue and Response with funding for an outboard engine, for example.
“The next round of applications for the Property Fund is now open and I urge members of the public to contact the OPCC if they would like to provide positive opportunities within their community. All information of how to apply can be found on my website.”
Chief Superintendent Lisa Hogan, Cumbria Constabulary, said: “It is pleasing to see that money generated and seized from those who commit crime is redistributed into very worthwhile initiatives within our communities.
“The efforts by community groups not only assist the Constabulary’s efforts to keep people safe, they also make a significant contribution to improving the quality of life for people across our county.”
Please note that the next deadline date for Property Fund applicants is 31 March 2023 and for more guidance on how to apply, use the following link
