History was made last night as Barrow Town Council gathered for the first time after the elections on May 4th.
Among various appointments, the first decision of the night was to elect Labour’s Chris Altree as the new mayor of Barrow..
A delighted Mayor Altree said,
“It’s the honour of a lifetime for this Barrow lad, to be mayor of our wonderful town. I will spend this year celebrating all that we have to offer. I believe my job is to shout about it from the rooftops and anyone who’d like me to highlight their work, please get in touch.”
Judith McEwan who was adopted as Deputy -Mayor, ” I feel privileged to have been elected and will strive to do this to the highest standard possible.”
Election night had yielded a strong result for a resurgent Labour Party who picked up 19 of the 21 ward seats on offer.
” We have a unique, historic opportunity to shape the future , providing a strong voice for Barrow’s local areas, “said Labour Group Leader Paul Griffiths.
