Officers in Barrow carry out traffic operation

A traffic operation in Barrow yesterday ( 4 May ) was hailed a success, with arrests made and drivers given advice about safer driving

Barrow Mobile Support Group (MSG) officers deployed marked and unmarked vehicles in a police operation on Thursday targeting antisocial and drink/drug driving in the town.

A safety camera was also utilised in the area of North Road. The operation resulted in a number of drivers being stopped and given advice about their driving.

An arrest was also made for drug driving where Class A drugs were recovered resulting in a criminal caution for possession of cocaine.

PC Benjamin Jones of Barrow MSG said: “This kind of work is conducted by traffic officers on a daily basis in Barrow.

“The operation took place in response to community concerns around antisocial and drink/drug driving at school pickup time and this resulted in a number of drivers being given words of advice, the arrest of a drug driver, and the recovery of Class A drugs.

“Barrow MSG are committed to enforcing safer roads and in the past month have made nineteen arrests for drink/drug driving and other offences, and conducted twenty-three stop searches of which sixteen were positive.

“I would encourage people in the Barrow area to report such issues. The reports we receive are vital in helping us build up an accurate picture of what is happening”.
