Injunction secured against teen involved in anti-social behaviour in Ulverston

A teenager from Ulverston has been handed an interim anti-social behaviour injunction (ASBI) after being involved in crime, disorder, and anti-social behaviour in Ulverston.

In response to addressing anti-social behaviour in Ulverston, South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing team identified the teen as being involved in a significant number of incidents relating to crime and disorder in and around the town centre.

The interim injunction was granted by Barrow Youth Court on 12 July and is in place until October 2024.

The injunction is effective immediately and specifies that the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is prohibited from entering any retail premises in Ulverston without being accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The injunction also includes a number of conditions such as not entering a premises which he has been barred, and not insulting harassing or pestering any person in a public place.

Sergeant Paul Mellard from the South Lakes NPT said: “We are pleased that the court has granted this interim injunction and hope it will improve the quality of life for those in the area and who have been affected by this behaviour over the recent months.

“This injunction carries a power of arrest, meaning the teen can be arrested and presented to the court for immediate outcome should any conditions be broken. This helps us manage their behaviour more effectively and the courts have greater powers to sentence should a breach occur”.

Residents who are having any issues with this type of behaviour in their communities are encouraged to speak to their local Community Beat Officer or PCSO. Alternatively, issues can be reported via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

This work forms part of Operation Enhance – Cumbria Police’s new county-wide crackdown on anti-social behaviour (ASB) and serious violence
