Frontline services have been gearing up for the colder months since early spring and are ready to keep residents safe, moving and cared for this winter.
Westmorland and Furness Council launches ‘winter ready’ campaign to support residents and businesses during the coming months.
This year’s campaign will reflect the council’s winter travel and weather preparations, and will provide up to date public health information and guidance to make sure communities are kept moving, safe and have access to support.
A wide range of information about winter-related items is available on the council’s website.
The campaign will continue to include a programme of social media activity, keeping people up to date with all the latest winter advice and information.
Winter Ready seeks to ensure people have the right information, advice and guidance at their fingertips. Key messaging from partner authorities such as Cumbria Constabulary, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, the Lake District Safety Group, Environment Agency and others will be shared to help encourage residents to get ready for winter too.
The campaign provides advice and assistance on everything you need to know to help you be prepared and to get winter ready, including:
- Winter travel – how to stay safe and keep up to date with road and weather information.
- The latest information, guidance and support available to people regarding flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
- Emergency planning – advice on how to find out if you are at risk from flooding and how to be prepared.
- General health advice – staying well this winter.
- Information and advice about ‘warm spots’ and support for Cost of Living.
Councillor Peter Thornton, Westmorland and Furness Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Assets, said: “We have seen first-hand the impact severe winter weather can have on communities in Westmorland and Furness. Winter is upon us, and it is important we take some simple steps to prepare – from getting a flu or a Covid booster jab, to signing up for weather alerts.
“Whatever the weather throws at us this winter, Westmorland and Furness Council is ready to respond. We have been preparing for the colder months and our website is full of the latest advice, help and support you may need over the next few months.”
