Today Barrow & Furness MP, Simon Fell, GSK and Westmorland & Furness Council launched Cumbria LAMP – their proposals for a life sciences and advanced manufacturing park clustered around the GSK facility in Ulverston.

In a roundtable meeting with the Minister for Life Sciences, George Freeman MP, Cumbria LAMP was officially launched.

Following an exhaustive master planning exercise funded by GSK, proposals are now on the table for a life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and research facility on the outskirts of Ulverston, using over 12 hectares of development land.

Today’s roundtable was called by Simon Fell MP, with the life sciences minister leading a discussion with potential partners including CPI, MMIC, Lancaster University, the Office for Life Sciences, Westmorland & Furness Council, and GSK.

Cumbria LAMP could host up to 1,000 high skill, high value jobs, supporting local SMEs and the supply chain, and helping the Government of achieving its objective of expanding UK life science capacity in the North.

Speaking after the meeting, Simon Fell said:

“This first meeting of Cumbria LAMP is a momentous one. For the last few years, I’ve been working with the local community, including partners in GSK and the Council, to grow the local economy, create new jobs, and build on the 75 year legacy of life sciences in Ulverston. Cumbria LAMP offers that opportunity.”

Minister Freeman has agreed to join another LAMP meeting early in the new year to assess developments and offer support and advice from Government.

Now Cumbria LAMP has been launched Simon Fell MP will Chair the new forum to bring investment and partners to the scheme, and to secure new jobs and Ulverston’s economy.
