The community in Ambleside will now benefit from a dedicated Community Beat Officer who has joined the Neighbourhood Policing Team in South Lakes.
PC Adam Roberts started his role at the end of June and will offer a consistent presence in the area. He will work to address the concerns and issues relating to crime and anti-social behaviour in Ambleside and the wider area.
In his role as a Community Beat Officer he will act as a link between the variety of factions within the communities of Ambleside and the police.
PC Roberts brings with him a wealth of experience having previously worked as part of the response team in Windermere for over two years and prior to this he was an operational officer in both Kendal and Barrow.
Since starting the role, PC Roberts has already launched regular ‘Sit and Chat’ sessions in the park, made inroads into the local schools and is currently in the process of arranging a multi-agency day around water safety and ASB on the shores of Lake Windermere.
Inspector Grant Kelso, of South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “PC Roberts is a welcome addition to the team in South Lakes and he will be out and about in the community offering that visible presence.
“As part of his role he will be engaging with the local residents, business owners and visitors to prevent crime and tackle anti-social behaviour.
“PC Roberts is an experienced officer and his knowledge and skills from previous roles will assist him in working to assure any arising issues or concerns for residents or businesses are dealt with swiftly and effectively.”
Speaking a a few weeks into his role, Community Beat Officer Adam said: “Over the coming weeks and months I am looking forward to getting to the root of the key issues facing the area.
“I will be based ay Ambleside police station and you can reach out to me or visit us at the station should you have any concerns you wish to raise.
“I am sincerely looking forward to getting to know the area and I trust that my position will prove to be beneficial to the community.”
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall, said: “ASB is considered by some to be a low-level crime, but the reality is that it affects whole communities, and can make life miserable for those who bear the brunt of it. That is why I am really pleased to see Cumbria Constabulary placing a Community Beat Officer in Ambleside to get a grip and deal effectively with the ASB before it has the opportunity to evolve into more serious crimes.
“Ambleside is one of our more popular tourist destinations in the county and, while most visitors and residents are respectful of those around them, more crowds can bring more ASB. With the summer season just starting, this is an ideal time to have a dedicated Community Beat Officer in the town.
“No one deserves to be intimidated or scared on the streets, so I would urge anyone who has experienced anti-social behaviour or indeed any other crimes, to report it to the Police.”
