Unique family-friendly experience for Barrovians this Christmas

Shipping containers, a greenhouse, a boat shed and other unexpected spaces and places will host creative and festive magic for Barrovian audiences this Christmas.
A BarrowFull of Christmas is the seasonal output from BarrowFull this year; 12 experiences exploring the gifts from the 12 days of Christmas which will be ready for the public to explore, spread across Barrow Park and The Dock Museum.
The trail will be open from 10:30am to 3:30pm on Saturday 3, Sunday 4, Wednesday 7, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December and will be created over the coming weeks by 12 community groups working with 3 professional artists to create exciting and engaging responses to each of the gifts from 12 days of Christmas for families and individuals to visit and enjoy. The best bit is – it’s completely free to attend.
Daniel Tyler-McTighe, BarrowFull’s Creative Director, says, “I’m so glad that we can co-create this ambitious festive treat for Barrovians this year, working with local people. We’ve got a lot to organise, including sorting out shuttle buses to ensure that everyone can get around Barrow while it’s on without having to worry about money during these challenging times. We’ll be asking for local opinions and feedback on the whole project over the next few weeks as we work things out. We’re really grateful to BAE Systems for sponsoring the event”
The installations will include creative artworks, multimedia, interactive installations, immersive experiences and promise to be exciting and fun – a BarrowFull load of fun – for all to enjoy.
Editor’s notes
BarrowFull is the new name for Barra Culture, one of 36 new Creative People and Places (CPP) projects awarded funding by Arts Council England with the aim of increasing participation in the arts, particularly amongst those least engaged.
BarrowFull has been developed and is led by a consortium of Barrow-based organisations who will provide strategic oversight with Women’s Community Matters as Lead Partner and accountable body. The Consortium is made up of Brathay Trust, Barrow Borough Council, Cumbria County Council Libraries and Archives and Barrow Arts Group, comprising of Art Gene, Theatre Factory, Full of Noises and Signal Film & Media.
BarrowFull’s vision is for everyone in Barrow to have the opportunity to experience and be inspired by arts and culture in their local community.
