Two events to showcase emergency services

TWO events are taking place next month to showcase the work of emergency services to the community.

Barrow Fire Station is holding an Open Day on Saturday, July 13 to highlight its team’s important role in the community, and the following day, Busher Walk in Kendal will host an Emergency Services Day, in which a host of organisations will come together to showcase their staff, vehicles and equipment.

At Barrow (10am to 4pm), the crew will deliver a road traffic collision (RTC) demonstration and offer fire, road and water safety advice to visitors. There will also be the opportunity to learn more about the role of a Firefighter and the equipment used, and to explore recruitment opportunities at Barrow and neighbouring stations.

Also attending at Barrow to showcase their services are partner organisations Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team, HM Coastguard, Blood Bikes Cumbria, Mind and Andy’s Man Club.

There will also be a craft fair, face-painting and family attractions, a raffle and refreshments. All proceeds go to The Firefighters Charity, which offers lifelong support to the UK’s firefighting community.

At Kendal (11am to 4pm), emergency services in attendance along Busher Walk for a day of information and demonstrations will be Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Cumbria Police, North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria Beep Doctors, Bay Search and Rescue, Kendal Mountain Rescue Team and North West Air Ambulance.

The first hour of the day (11am to midday) will be a quieter period for those who prefer a less noisy and busy atmosphere. A road closure is in place along Busher Walk, however the rear car park will be available.

For more information, follow Barrow Fire Station and Kendal Fire Station on Facebook.

** Also on Saturday, July 13, Seascale Fire Station is holding a car wash (10am to 1pm) with proceeds going to The Firefighters Charity.
