The Great Red Run for your local Labour Party- Bank Holiday Monday May 3, 2021

Barrow and Furness Labour Party are encouraging anyone who supports Labour to get active and walk or run 5k to raise funds for our local constituency group. Any funds raised will be used for Labour party campaigns and to support the constituency Labour Party office. Every person who takes part is asked to donate £10, or if they cannot complete the challenge then they could sponsor another person for £10 instead.

Prizes will be given for best dressed individuals or families – please wear red and share your pics on social media using the hashtag #thegreatredrun

Gary Robinson, the fundraising coordinator for the local Labour Party said, “Whether you are an experienced runner or someone who prefers a leisurely stroll and a chat, we are inviting people to take part in this socially-distanced fund raising 5k event. Those that have treadmills at home can also participate.”

“The idea is to wear some red clothing and/or a red rose and share your photos on social media while on the run/walk and win prizes. Prizes are awarded for the best red outfit and the best dressed family. Runners are asked to share their times, via photo evidence of their fitness tracker devices on the day and we will award a prize to the fastest 5k.”

“During the pandemic traditional means of raising funds for our local elections has been difficult, so we are especially pleased with the launch of our first Great Red Run (#greatredrun), as this is something that most people can take part in despite any lockdown restrictions.”

Robinson, who has recently been appointed to the Barrow & Furness Constituency Labour Party executive committee in a new fundraising coordinator role, will be helping spearhead a series of fundraising events throughout 2021 including a ‘Big Red Bake Off’ baking competition and some live music events among future plans.

“With local elections coming up this is also a perfect way to get out there and show your support for your local Labour candidates,” he added. “As restrictions are beginning to lift, we will be able go out campaigning too. We hope that we are able to combine both activities on May 3 and clock up some steps while speaking to people around Barrow and Furness in the run up to the local elections. “

“We can’t wait to see everyone’s photos from the day from across this picturesque constituency and to award the prizes for best red outfit, best dressed families. Seasoned runners should share their times too so that we can award a prize for the fastest 5k on the day.”

The inaugural Great Red Run 2021 takes place on Bank Holiday Monday May 3 and is planned to be an annual fund-raising event.
