Summer Holiday Activity and Food programme launched

Westmorland and Furness Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Summer Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme. The programme provides fully funded activities and nourishing meals for eligible young people during the school holidays.

Research has shown that the school holidays can be pressure points for some families. Evidence shows that holiday clubs can have a positive impact on children and young people, providing physical and enriching activities and nutritious food.

The Holiday Activity and Food programme provides a wide range of activities during the school holidays and young people attending receive a warm nutritious meal each day they attend. The criteria is that children who are eligible for Free School Meals can access the summer programme for free.

Mil Vasic, Director of Children’s Services said: ‘We’d like to thank all our partner and community organisations for putting on this fantastic programme of activity over the summer, supporting our young people through the holiday period.  The programme runs for 16 days in the summer, 4 days at Easter and Christmas and we know is helpful for families and has a positive impact on children’.
