Detectives are continuing to investigate a series of burglaries in the south lakes area of Cumbria.

Over the weekend of the 6 – 7 May 2023 there have been reported burglaries in the Allithwaite and Flookburgh areas. The offences are believed to have happened overnight.

It is believed the suspects are targeting addresses whilst residents are away from the house. The suspects will usually force entry to rear doors and windows before entering the houses and stealing jewellery and cash.

Police are appealing for residents in the areas of Allithwaite and Flookburgh who have any CCTV, doorbell camera or vehicle dash-camera footage from 6 – 7 May 2023, to contact police.

You can report online at www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it quoting log 62 of 8 May 2023.

You can also phone on 101.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Police would like to remind residents to be vigilant and ensure when they leave their houses to lock all doors and windows, install CCTV or video doorbells if possible and leave lights on where they can.

Patrols are being increased across south Lakeland and officers are taking measures to deter offenders and help prevent further burglaries.

What can you do to protect your home?

Some simple, basic tips include:

  • Lock doors and windows before you go out and ensure that your house and keys are secure.
  •  Remove keys from locks and keep them out of reach, not on a hall table, hiding any vehicle keys in a secure place.
  • Ensure side gates and sheds are locked with a good quality lock.
  • Keep cash and valuables locked away safe or well hidden.
  • Consider increasing your security with good quality locks, CCTV and chains.
