New conservation area proposal for Millom

MILLOM’S heritage could be further preserved with the proposal of a new conservation area.

Copeland Borough Council is leading a consultation to protect the land and buildings around Millom Castle and Holy Trinity Church.

Conservation areas draw attention to the character and appearance of a place so that they can be preserved when managing change.

They bring additional regulations to the planning system around the demolition of buildings and works to or removal of trees.

Developments that may be permitted outside conservation areas, also face more stringent regulations if proposed within a conservation boundary.

In addition to the new conservation area proposals, the council is asking for feedback on the current Millom Town Conservation Area to inform a new management plan.

A public meeting to discuss the matters will be held on February 1 at Millom Guide Hut from 4pm to 5pm.

The council is asking for the public’s feedback on the new conservation area proposal at www.copeland.gov.uk/content/conservation-and-design-documents-and-guidance from February 1.

The consultation runs from February 1 to 28. Paper copies of the proposal are available at Millom Library and Millom Community Hub.
