At 07:58 on Monday 16th January, the Millom Coastguard and Rescue Team was tasked by Holyhead Coastguard Operations Centre to investigate a report of suspected ordnance found below the high water mark on the beach off Eskmeals range.
The team arrived at the location to find the red range boundary flags raised, indicating the firing range is active and so were unable to venture onto the foreshore to investigate the reported sighting of ordnance.
A subsequent inspection of the beach by the MOD after firing had ceased, found the reported ordnance, which was declared to be an inert shell, and the removal was arranged.
