Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall, who funds Get Safe Online in Cumbria, said: “With technology advancing as quickly as it is, it is essential that we all know how to best protect ourselves when we are online.

“Cyber criminals are experts in gaining the trust of members of the public and exploiting this trust for financial or even sexual gain.

“To protect ourselves, our children, our parents and even our businesses, it’s essential that we know how to spot scams when we are faced with them and protect ourselves from criminals targeting us even without our knowledge.

“This is why this training is an excellent opportunity for everyone to get even more knowledge about how to navigate the internet safely and put deterrents in place to discourage perpetrators.

“I would urge everyone to sign-up for this training – it really is beneficial to everyone involved and together we can put a stop to cyber crime.”

Tony Neate, Chief Executive of Get Safe Online, said: “It’s always been important that people know how to protect themselves, their families, finances, devices and businesses safe online.

“But over the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a massive increase in the use of, and reliance on, the internet, by all age groups and in all walks of life.

“This has resulted in a huge uplift in cybercrime, with fraudsters exploiting people’s relentless concern about their and loved ones’ health, wellbeing and finances.

“It’s particularly timely that the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner has chosen to offer this training, and we’re delighted to be offering our advice and expertise.”
