Family business launches trio of festive initiatives as it seeks to spread festive cheer

SANTA is set to be given a run for his money by the generous staff of a leading accountancy firm.

Colleagues at JF Hornby & Co have a trio of plans to help those in need in the communities the business serves.

In the coming weeks, they will complete a trolley dash for the Barrow and Ulverston Food Bank, load boxes with toys for the Salvation Army Toy Appeal, and will deliver festive hampers of joy to deserving people.

The team is seeking nominations for the hamper giveaway – and is encouraging anyone who knows someone in need or who deserves a festive treat to get in touch.

Paul Hornby, Managing Director, said: “We know that in some households this year, Christmas will not be a cause for celebrations, as the cost of living crisis hit home.

“We keep a keen eye on the economy, on inflation and on the impact they have on day to day life. Thai is normally in the context of our clients and their businesses, but our attention naturally turns to people at this time of year.

“Our three-pronged approach to spreading a little Christmas cheer will hopefully make a real impact to those who need it most. Christmas should be about family, laughter and creating special memories.

“Of course we cannot fix the economy – but we can play a small part in helping our communities at this challenging time.”
Startling figures show that nearly seven in ten people (67%) are worried about being able to afford Christmas dinner this year amid the cost of living crisis, according to a survey by The Salvation Army.
The number rises to eight in ten (81%) of those aged over 65, whilst statistics show almost one in six (16%) expect to use items from a food bank for their festive meal.
Whilst the JFH trolley dash will see all food donated to local foodbanks, and toys go to the Salvation Army, the team will deliver the festive hampers themselves.
They will be filled with Christmas food, snacks and treats, and Hornby’s are asking for your nominations for deserving people from the local area – those who are struggling or have made a positive difference to others – who would benefit from receiving one of these.
