For the second consecutive year, Councillor Matt Severn is taking on the role of Chair of Westmorland and Furness Council.
Councillor Severn, Liberal Democrat member for Kendal Highgate, was re-elected as Chair at the Annual Council Meeting yesterday (9 May).

He also organised a toy donation scheme for his chosen charity, Springfield Domestic Abuse Support, and £3,800 was donated by the council to the charity.
Councillor Ali Jama, Liberal Democrat member for Upper Kent, was also re-elected as Deputy Chair at the meeting and will continue to support Councillor Severn in the civic year ahead.
Councillor Matt Severn, Chair of Westmorland and Furness Council, said:
“It has been an honour to take on the role as Chair and represent Westmorland and Furness in the council’s first year. Getting the opportunity to meet residents from all our wonderful communities has been a privilege, and I look forward to continuing this.
“The role of Chair is important in raising the profile of both the council and its vital work; as well as the traditions, events and people that make Westmorland and Furness what it is. I’m delighted to be able to continue in the role for another year.”
