COMMUNITY STRONGER TOGETHER IN ART

Ormsgill was awash with colour on Bank Holiday Monday as the community came together creatively with local graffit artist Mike Thompson to design a huge mural for the community garden.

Mayor Altree said, ” what a fantastic bank holiday morning in Ormsgill Community Garden with local families, Cllr Beverly Morgan and Cllr Derek Brook. Thank you to Ormsgill Stronger Together and BarrowFull for organising another great event.”

Teams were challenged to draw different ideas to provide local inspiration ready for the work to begin. The graffiti artist himself said “it is comprised by using images that the kind folks of Ormsgill have taken, showing their area and heritage.  I feel there should be more creative spaces like this to celebrate where they live and the experiences around them.’

Cllr Beverly Morgan, who attended with fellow Cllr Derek Brook and the new Mayor of Barrow said , “people come together in Ormsgill for shared causes and events such as the Community Garden. They feel a sense of responsibility towards improving their community. I’m proud to be part of that and help where I can.”

On their Facebook page, Ormsgill Stronger Together encouraged residents to find out about the Barrowfull funded project.

” if you do spot him in the garden when you’re passing by, feel free to say hi and chat to him about what he’s doing.

He has also been working on 2 additional pieces that are based around Ormsgill and incorporate some of the photographs provided by members of the community. These pieces will be added to either side of what we have created today.”
