Commissioners Office Supports Apprenticeship Scheme

This week, Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall is celebrating National Apprenticeship week and the first recruit to be taken on in the PCC office, is Bronwyn Musgrave who is doing an Apprenticeship in Business and Administration Level 3 course at Carlisle College.

National Apprenticeship week shines a light on the positive impact apprentices can make within a workforce, as well as developing people’s key skills and future confidence.

Talking about the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s new apprentice, Peter McCall comments: “Investing in people by supporting apprenticeship schemes such as the Apprenticeship in Business and Administration course, is an effective way to nurture home grown talent and develop a skilled workforce.

“A good apprentice gains valuable experience, develops skills that are highly transferable and can be applied to all areas of the organisation, while also earning great qualifications.

“The flexibility of this scheme means that Bronwyn is able to develop her skills and knowledge as she goes along, experience what it is like to work within the many different parts of the organisation and also be paid as she learns.”

Apprentice Bronwyn Musgrave comments: “Since starting the course three months ago, I quickly realised that it is as much about having the confidence to learn on the job, as it is about picking up new ideas from attending college one day a week.

“I have enjoyed the fact that every day is different. Some days I work independently on a specific task and other days as part of the wider team in meetings and discussions.

“If you are willing to show initiative, manage your own time and learn new things as you go along, I would recommend the scheme. An apprenticeship gives you hands-on experience, a salary and the opportunity to train while you work.”
