Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall praises Cumbria Victim Support’s domestic abuse services, as they receive their third accreditation within the last 18 months.
The latest award, from the ‘Safelives Leading Lights’ accreditation, recognises the high levels of service and good practice in the county’s community based Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) service. IDVA’s support victims of domestic abuse through a risk led response and ensure that survivors of domestic violence receive the same level of service, regardless of where they live in the county.
Peter McCall comments: “As Commissioner, I am absolutely dedicated to putting victims first and that is why I have continued to support and develop high quality services for victims of domestic abuse in Cumbria.
“This accreditation is a challenge for any domestic abuse service but to have achieved this during a pandemic, when service delivery and domestic abuse reporting rates have increased, is a significant achievement for the whole team.
“Achieving nationally recognised high standard awards for our domestic abuse service provision should give people the confidence to come forwards, seek help and know that top quality support is available.”
Sarah Place, Victim Support Cumbria Operations Manager says: “I would like to congratulate and thank not only our IDVA’s, but also the various domestic abuse support teams, who have all worked relentlessly throughout the pandemic to ensure victims of crime and survivors of abuse were offered practical support, advice and information throughout.
“Their hard work, determination for helping others and passion for what they do every day, has been recognised with our Leading Lights, Respect and also Lime Culture accreditations.
“Here at Victim Support, we work towards ensuring that people in Cumbria, who have been affected by crime or traumatic events, get the support they need and the respect they deserve. We help people feel safer and find the strength to move beyond crime.”
