Celebration event for new community hub in Millom this Saturday

The event will take place in the new hub on Salthouse Road. The whole community are invited to join in the celebrations to mark the official opening of the redesigned building. Entry, refreshments and activities will be free to all!

There will be fun filled drama and imaginative play sessions delivered by Pyjama Drama for children aged 3 to 7 years. Parents and carers can book in advance through Eventbrite to secure a place. There will also be a range of fantastic activities for the whole family to enjoy, including Christmas crafts, music, a free raffle and much more!

The event will showcase the new hub which brings together public and community services in a fit-for-purpose setting. Services now available from the building include Millom Library, Copeland Borough Council’s Revenue and Benefits team, and Adult Learning, alongside office bases for the NHS and Police. From the new year, the premises will also accommodate Millom School reception.

The building that previously housed Millom Library (on St George’s Road) will be used by Sellafield Ltd for their Millom based staff and those in the surrounding area. This will bring an increased footfall within the town during the day to complement other projects that form part of the Town Deal. Sellafield Ltd are taking on an extensive renovation, bringing further investment into the town.

Cllr Deborah Earl, Cumbria County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Services, said:

“This event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the brilliant new Millom Community Hub. The transformed building provides a modernised setting for the library amongst a range of other public services. The relocated library has new shelving and furniture, comfortable seating areas, a dedicated teen space and a fantastic children’s library. Come along to this free community event to see what’s on offer!

Cllr Keith Hitchen, Cumbria County Council Chair of Copeland Local Committee, said:

“I’m honoured to be speaking as part of this celebration event to mark the opening of this wonderful new community hub for Millom. The project has created a new home for public services, accommodated in a modern and fit-for-purpose setting. Everyone in the community is invited to join us, enjoy the new facilities, and get involved in the free activities.”

Gary McKeating, Head of Community and Development at Sellafield Ltd, said:

“This opening event will showcase the enhanced level of services brought by the new community hub, which was enabled by £250k of funding from Sellafield Ltd’s social impact programme ‘Social Impact Multiplied’. This is a key part of the overall package that brought the Millom offices project to fruition alongside our wider support to the area through the Millom Town Deal.”
