BAE Systems to showcase exciting career opportunities in submarines

BAE Systems will showcase the wide range of exciting career opportunities available at its
Barrow site during a series of recruitment events next month.

Across three days in early November, the business will open the doors of its £25m
Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge (SASK) to potential employees.

The business is particularly keen to hear from qualified tradespeople, including welders,
caulkers, steelworkers, pipefitters, mechanical fitters and machinists.

If successful, there is an opportunity for people to leave the events with an offer of
employment and the chance to deliver some of the world’s most advanced submarines for
the Royal Navy.

This year, BAE Systems Submarines is planning to recruit approximately 1,200 new
employees, including more than 100 new tradespeople.

Oli Wignall, Operations Director for BAE Systems Submarines, said: “This is a really exciting
time to join our business, as we continue work to deliver the Astute, Dreadnought and SSNR
programmes for the Royal Navy.

“Barrow has been the proud home of UK submarine building for more than 100 years and
now is the time for you to play your part in our future. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the fantastic career opportunities available, so I’d urge anyone interested to come along and find out more”.

The open events will take place on:

 Tuesday 1st November 16.00 – 21.00
 Wednesday 2nd November 16.00 – 21.00
 Sunday 6th November 10.00 – 15.00

Access to the SASK is via Buccleuch Dock Road, on Barrow Island.
Anyone attending must bring with them a valid form of photo identification, such as a
passport or driving licence, as well as CV and trade or apprenticeship certificates. Anyone
who fails to bring ID will unfortunately be denied access.

During the events, visitors be shown a presentation of the roles available and assessed for
their suitability, with the opportunity for successful candidates to walk away with a statement
of intent to employ them, subject to checks.
