Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision which occurred on the A590 near Witherslack.

The collision, which occurred at 3:55pm today (15 June), involved a grey BMW 3 Series and a blue Ford Fiesta.

The driver of the Fiesta was taken to hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries.

The A590 remains closed in the area and diversions are in place. The road will remain closed for a number of hours as forensic collision investigation enquiries take place. Motorists are asked to avoid the area where possible.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dash cam footage which may assist the investigation.
