Accountancy firm expands financial education course in schools following successful pilot

Primary school pupils will benefit from a good relationship with money, when a leading accountancy firm expands its financial education programme.

Schools across Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston will receive visits from the team behind the JF Hornby Money Club across April and May.

JF Hornby & Co joined forces with the Furness Education and Skills Partnership (FESP) last year to deliver financial education sessions in schools across Furness.

Managing Director Paul Hornby said: “Our aim is for children to have a positive relationship with money from an early age – and that means starting the conversation as soon as possible.

“We started running these sessions last year with great success and feedback and I’m pleased we are back again with an expanded delivery programme and some exciting Money Club merchandise to get pupils engaged and interested in finance.

“We launched the J F Hornby Money Club, something that pupils will be encouraged to join in our upcoming sessions. The children will agree to a savings pledge and receive a goodie bag. We make it fun and engaging.”

The Money Club will see children agree to a pledge before receiving a goodie bag containing a piggy bank, writing pad and pencil crayons.

The pledge will see children promise to:

  • Be careful with their money
  • Save what they can when they can
  • Never give their passwords or sensitive information to anyone.

The primary school sessions will also include conversations around different types of currency, online safety, scams, global currencies, budgeting and saving.

This programme is part of the Build My Skills initiative, which aims to equip young people with the necessary skills to make them more employable in the future.

Schools signed up for the Spring sessions are Vickerstown Primary School, Chetwynde School, Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School, Parkside Academy, St James’ C of E Junior School, Greengate Junior School, Croftlands Junior School, George Romney Junior School, Askam Village School, Dalton St Mary’s C of E Primary School, Victoria Academy.
