Offer of widespread COVID-19 vaccinations to end soon

Anyone hoping to get their COVID-19 spring booster or their first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has less than a month to come forward or risk missing out.

The spring booster vaccination is being offered to those considered most at risk from the virus and eligible people have until Friday 30 June to take up the offer.

The same date is also the last chance for people who are yet to have their first or second COVID-19 vaccine dose to come forward. After this, vaccination programmes will be targeted at those at increased risk and will be offered during seasons where infection rates are likely to be at their highest.

There are plenty of appointments still available, at thousands of sites across the country, making it easier than ever to get protected.

Vicky Hepworth-Putt, Consultant in Public Health with Westmorland and Furness Council, said: “It’s really encouraging that significant numbers of people are still coming forward for their COVID-19 vaccines and we still highly recommend taking up the offer of a vaccine if you’re eligible.

“There are just a couple of weeks left now for anyone who still hasn’t had theirs to come forward. After 30 June, the offer will become more targeted, like the regular flu vaccine.

“Although it may feel like COVID is a thing of the past, it’s still circulating amongst the population. Please make the most of the opportunity to protect yourself from COVID before the offer ends.”

The spring booster is available to anyone aged 75 or over (you need to have turned 75 on or before 30 June 2023), anyone who lives in a care home for older adults, or anyone aged 5 years old or over and has a weakened immune system. If you’ve only had one vaccine, or none at all, you’re also eligible. More information about eligibility can be found on the NHS website.

Anyone who believes they should be eligible for a vaccine but does not get invited can check online.

Alternatively, they can self-declare via the National Booking Service and then speak to a clinician on site.

When booking an appointment or attending a drop-in vaccination session, please make sure it has been at least three months since your last dose.
