The beloved Tour de Furness charity cycle ride is set to return for its 29th year, continuing its tradition of combining community spirit with charitable giving. Scheduled for Sunday, September 1st, this year’s event promises to be another memorable day of cycling through the picturesque Furness peninsula.

Since its inception in 1995, the Tour de Furness has raised an impressive sum of over £500,000 for local charities, showcasing the generosity and dedication of its participants. This year, cyclists of all abilities are invited to join in the fundraising efforts by choosing from three scenic routes:

  • 13-mile route: Perfect for beginners and families
  • 25-mile route: Ideal for intermediate cyclists
  • 50-mile route: A challenge for experienced riders

The event will start and finish at the Roose Conservative Club in Barrow, providing a convenient central location for participants and spectators alike.

Vattenfall Offshore Wind Power returns as the principal sponsor, demonstrating their commitment to supporting local community initiatives.

Former Rotary president Brian Boyd, event organiser and chair of the ”Tour” committee said, “The Tour de Furness has become a cornerstone event in our community calendar,” He added “We’re excited to welcome both returning riders and newcomers to this year’s event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy our beautiful local landscapes while contributing to worthy causes.”
