Grizebeck improvement works update – drop-in session planned

Cumbria County Council are inviting residents and businesses to attend a drop-in session, to hear updates on the detailed design phase of the improvement works that are planned at Grizebeck on the A595.

Funding for this scheme has been provided by Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, Cumbria County Council and Department for Transport. The scheme will improve the 1.4 km single carriageway road between Chapels and Grizebeck on the A595 north of Barrow, which has been identified as critical to support the economic growth of West and South Cumbria, ensuring the A595 can function adequately as a strategic diversion route for the A590.

Cumbria County Council working together with contractor Story Contracting Ltd and design lead WSP have now entered the detailed design phase of the project and would like to invite residents and businesses to a drop-in session, so people can hear updates on the detailed design phase, view plans and examine the improvement proposals in greater detail.

The drop-in session will be held:

  • At Grizebeck Community Hall.
  • On Wednesday 1 March.
  • From 2.00pm to 6.00pm (please drop in at any time).

Staff from Cumbria County Council, Story Contracting Ltd and WSP will be on hand to answer questions.

Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:

“The Grizebeck scheme will not only improve journey times and boost the county’s economy but will also create a safer road from Barrow to West Cumbria.

“This drop-in session will help the public and businesses see the full extent of the scheme and will really bring the plans to life.

“I’d like to encourage people to take the time to pop in and see the teams, as they are there to listen and answer any questions that the community may have.”

Alan Boyle, Construction Director for Story Contracting, said:

“We are delighted to be working for Cumbria County Council on this project which is a vital scheme for the area.  As well as delivering a new road, we are keen to create employment and opportunities for local residents, so we are looking forward to meeting people at the drop in event”.
