Our Station Manager is a multimedia journalist, with an interest in all things Furness, and a passion for driving and developing local media. He can often be found out-of-breath at the top of a mountain.
Born and raised on the Furness Peninsula, Danny’s first taste of radio was work experience on the news desk of Abbey FM. Leaving Barrow to study journalism at one of the top journalism schools in Europe, Danny continued to work in radio, hosting a late-night talk show on Forge Radio, alongside developing his print skills, and helping to found and run a TV station in Sheffield. In 2012 he won the Best New Digital Product Concept prize at the PTC awards, for an interactive digital magazine he worked on.
After graduating, Danny returned to the Furness Peninsula and worked at Cumbria TV before taking up a position with BAE Systems. He began volunteering for CandoFM in 2014, and when the College decided to recruit a part-time Station Manager in 2015, Danny was lucky enough to be offered the job. Now working full-time for CandoFM, Danny’s working on moving the station into a position of sustainability, so we can provide a long-term community radio service for the people of Barrow and the Furness peninsula.
Outside of work, Danny likes to spend time wandering the Fells of Cumbria, reading a decent novel, and occasionally donning armour, swinging a sword, and defending the realms of men from peril.
